About Memeber

I am from Kashmir, India, and currently pursuing PhD in Biotechnology at SKUAST-K Shalimar under the mentorship of Professor Amjad M. Husaini in Genome Engineering and Societal Biotechnology Lab. Having completed both bachelor’s and master’s degree in Biotechnology, I want to advance my scientific understanding and utilize omics technologies for improvement in saffron, often called “red gold” as it fetches high price as a spice in the world. My research work explores how organic amendments can improve saffron quality and soil health, while also examining how these amendments influence the biochemical profile and enhance induced systemic resistance (ISR) against soil-borne pathogens. Utilizing metagenomics, my research aims to reveal microbial interactions and functions, and support the production of pesticide-free food. While pursuing my PhD I availed an opportunity (in 2023) to work on a phosphorus management in plant-soil systems at Connecticut Agricultural experiment station (CAES) in New Haven, USA.
